All trips start from the island of Rhodes, where you spend your vacation.
Rhodes, “Island of Roses” in ancient Greek, is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea near the southwest coast of the Asia Minor peninsula. Both in terms of area and population, Rhodes is the largest island of the Dodecanese archipelago, remaining 18 km from Turkey.
The island is 78 km long and 38 km wide, so it is not exactly the largest piece of land. But still, this island is full of myths and legends, centuries of history, culture, stunning nature, animals, and friendly people.
The legend says that once the Gods divided the world among themselves, but at the same time the sun god Helios was busy with lighting the earth, and a part of the world remained undivided.
Disturbed that he had nothing left, Helios raised an island from the seabed and named the island after his wife Rhodes. That is why the inhabitants of the island of Rhodes have been called the children of the sun god Helios since ancient times.
Historically, Rhodes is known as the place where one of the seven wonders of the world was located. In ancient times, a statue of the Sun God Helios stood on Rhodes, which was over 30 m. high. Unfortunately, the wonder of the world could only stand for 56 years, until a devastating earthquake hit the island and destroyed the city. The ancient Greek historian and geographer Strabo wrote: “Now the colossus lies on the ground, thrown over by the earthquake and broken in half at the knees”.

The lower part of Gialos has nice neoclassical buildings from the 19th century and is ideal for walks as they bring together much of Symi’s traditional charm.
One of the main attractions of Symi is the Venetian Castle, built by the Knights of Agios Ioannis in 1407. It stands at the highest point of the settlement and right next to it is the stone church of Kyra Panagia. Unfortunately, the castle was heavily damaged during World War II when the Germans retreated, and today only part of the fortified walls can be seen. Beautiful two-story stone houses have also remained from that time.

Tilos is one of those tiny Greek islands that fascinates with its isolation. The island of Tilos is still untouched by mass tourism. Thanks to its secluded location and wild nature, Tilos has become an alternative destination for vacations in Greece.
Livadia, the port of the island, is the most touristic place in Tilos. However, Mikro Chorio is the most interesting, it is a so-called abandoned ghost village.
After exploring the villages of Tilos, Greece, you should head to the beach. The beaches of Tilos offer a secluded holiday and are ideal for those who want privacy.
Santorini- Thíra (Θήρα or Σαντορίνη Santoríni in Modern Greek; Thera (Θήρα) in Ancient Greek context) is a small sickle-shaped volcanic island in the southern Aegean Sea about 200 km southeast of mainland Greece and about 100 km north of Crete, the southernmost island of the Cyclades archipelago, The main island of the Thíra archipelago.
The island is mountainous and over 300 meters high. It consists of many places of solidified lava. The inner side of the island is high and larger settlements are located on its crest. Towards the outer side (north, east and south) the island slopes and the beaches on the outer side are low and flat. The color of the beach sand depends on what kind of lava rock is exposed in that place: the island has Red Beach, Black Beach and White Beach. The water temperature is higher on dark beaches because the dark sand collects heat.
Thíra is the remnant of a huge volcanic explosion that destroyed the early settlement and created the current caldera, which includes the smaller islands of Thirasía and Asprónisi in addition to Thíra. The volcanic eruption of Thíra probably destroyed the high culture of Crete in the middle of the 2nd millennium BC. The palace of Knossos, like many other settlements and cities of Crete at the time, was buried under a thick layer of ash.
Excavations began in 1967 under the supervision of Professor Spyridon Marinatos. Only the southern edge of the large city (Akrotiri) was excavated, but a complex of multi-floor buildings, streets and squares and the remains of a city wall up to 8 meters high were found there. It was not a palace like those found in Crete, but the outstanding masonry and beautiful wall paintings show that there were no merchant warehouses either. The fabric weaving workshop found gives reason to assume export-oriented cloth weaving.
At the beginning of the 1st millennium BC, the island received a new settlement: the Dorians. Around 630 BC, the Therians founded the colony of Cyrenaica in Libya. Although the inhabitants of the island were Dorians, Thira was part of the Athenian maritime confederation. In the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC, it was the most important stronghold of the Ptolemaic fleet. At the beginning of the 2nd century BC, another volcanic disaster occurred.
Thíra is popular among tourists due to its natural beauty and nightlife. The earlier name of the island was Kallista (‘the most beautiful’).
Kastellorizo or Megisti is a small but wonderful island, which since ancient times was called Megist (also Meyísti), which means “the biggest”, because it happens to be the largest island of the picturesque cluster that surrounds it. With a total area of 11.9 square kilometers, Kastellorizo is a mountainous and rocky island. The colorful capital and harbor are built amphitheatrically around a windless bay on the northwest coast.
There are indeed more than one attraction on the island. Two good examples are Palaiokastro – “Old Castle”, which is located about the middle of the island and was once both the island’s acropolis and an older fortification, while “Kastro” -Castle is in the south-east of the harbor and 200 meters above sea level. In the eastern part of the harbor there is an impressive rock-cut tomb of Iyncea. The museum is housed in an architecturally significant two-story building and houses a rich exhibition of antiquity.
Kastellorizo is full of several churches and monasteries. The island’s patron saints are Constantine and Helen, to whom a church with exceptional architecture is dedicated. It is a three-aisled basilica and dates to 1835. Next to the church is the Santrapia Municipal School, which opened in 1903 and was built under the patronage of Louka Santrape.
The monastery of Püha Jüri is particularly picturesque, with monk cells, cisterns, and a cave-catacomb with a well and a finely worked wooden iconostasis.
Extremely scenic is the “Blue Cave” – a huge sea cave in the southeast of the island, which can only be visited by boat and only when the water is calm.
At first glance, it may seem unbelievable that the Blue Cave of Kastellorizo is of natural origin. The way the sun reflects off the turquoise sea water and envelops the entire cave in blue light seems unearthly but is a completely natural phenomenon. This Greek Island is beautiful both underground and above ground.

Kos is a small but beautiful island on the south coast of Greece next to Turkey.
The island, which is the birthplace of Hippocrates, the founder of medical science, was actually part of a mountain range that broke up into different islands as a result of previous earthquakes. Hercules is said to have personally visited Kos during his travels. Kos was also home to one of the largest markets of the ancient world – the Agora – which attracted merchants from far and near. Today, only the foundations of buildings excavated by archaeologists remain from the former glory of the market, which can also be inspected with your own eyes.
The island has a coastline of 112 kilometers and is characterized by clean sand and sea water. The island has many wild olive and fig trees, numerous citrus, apricot and pomegranate trees. All this gives you the opportunity to enjoy real nature and experience the hospitality and warmth of the Greeks.
The island of Nisyros is still untouched by mass tourism.
The island is popular for the famous Nisyros volcano, the youngest volcano in Greece that is still active.
Apart from its unique geology, Nisyros also has some picturesque little villages. The villages of Mandraki and Nikia in particular stand out for their traditional architecture and magnificent views.
